The Mandalay native passed away in the US on Sept. 1, leaving important legacies as both a modernist painter and a leading voice in the 8888 anti-dictatorship movement.
Reporters Without Borders made the call after a junta court jailed photojournalist Sai Zaw Thaike for 20 years with hard labor for covering the fallout of Cyclone Mocha.
So far, the heads of the Philippine, Malaysian and Indonesian air forces have said they will not attend the junta-hosted ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference next week.
